Re: Piper on Abortion

W,

Outstanding piece. I'm no big fan of John Piper, but this was well said and uniquely presented.

It will be interesting to see the continued reaction to HRH President Obama's appearance at Notre Dame this weekend. Apparently the pro-life forces are planning significant demonstrations.

Come quickly, Lord Jesus.

Yours,
L

Re: Piper on Abortion

Yeah, Notre Dame really made an "interesting" move there...and I'm being charitable! It will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Not a fan of Piper! The Humanity! ;-) I'm actually a fan, though I haven't drunk the koolaid. But we are agreed that this was a well-done piece!

Bless you brother!

Re: Piper on Abortion

W,

I know a professor who was formerly employed at Bethel Seminary and got on Piper's bad side. According to him, Piper was somewhat duplicitous and less than gracious to him and put pressure on him to leave. Normally I would dismiss a story like that as hearsay, but I have a high regard for the professor that I know personally, so its always 'colored the glass' through which I view Piper.

I guess you've read some of the takes at First Things about this Sunday's ND commencement.

You feeling 35 today? Wish I did.

Yours,
L

Re: Piper on Abortion

The President, and those like him, continue to cover over the truth with words like "the private lives of the family". Their attempt is sound noble as they murder. How dare they? If you are going to murder, then at least call it what it is. Over 50 million children have been taken from us. We should weep.

In the Old Testament, we see the misled offering their own children to the fire as sacrifices. They offered the innocent, for what they believed, to be blessing. It's same story today, children sacrificed on the shrine of an unencumbered life - what they believe to be a blessing.

Piper's piece is, as we used to say in the 70s, "right on".

Wyman, I still say you are the most eclectic guy I've ever known.

Charles,

Thanks for the comments and great to hear from you!

When will "Smoking Topaz" reunite for a tour?

The Band

Wyman,

I'd like to get the guys back together, but when you get old like I am, you forget the three-bar chord progression to Smoke on the Water (not to mention the words).

Re: Piper on Abortion

. . . now if only that passion would spread from the pulpit to the pew- We are such seasonal creatures: We follow college football only during the season; we sing about the incarnation only during Christmas; Christians repent and think of holiness only on Sunday. It seems that Christians are only passionate about the slaughtering of the innocent during January, Sanctity of Human Life month. Doesn't Paul say something about "in season and out of season"? :-/

I am thankful for Piper's open and regular stance against abortion. It's just sad that most pastors suck at seeing and making known the relevance that the gospel has in reference to the body of Christ saving the helpless.

Kevin,

That's a good, if difficult, point you make!

Re: Piper on Abortion

As for this particular video clip, I say "Amen." Good to hear him stand up for the unborn.

The best thing of Piper's that I ever read was his book "Don't Waste Your Life." A really good read that I highly recommend.

Thanks, Wym, for posting this.

Re: Piper on Abortion

Dave,

You are correct: Don't Waste Your Life is a great read. Thanks Davo.
