Re: A Baptismal Controversy of a Different Kind
W,
Classic! And further proof that Long John Silver was at least a Presbyterian.
Yours for continuing to insist on the wearing of the un-regenerated robes, L

Re: A Baptismal Controversy of a Different Kind
Lee,
Why weren't matters like this debated at the Jerusalem Council in Acts?
Just curious.

Re: A Baptismal Controversy of a Different Kind
Hey Wyman, do you think they would have made people take out their false teeth? :) Seriously, I mean what happens if you gain weight after your baptism - Would you need to go back under the water to cover the extra weight? :)
Just some thoughts

Re: A Baptismal Controversy of a Different Kind
Well that settles the wooden leg issue; now, if only I could get my people to stop bringing their right-wing hysteria to the baptismal.

Re: A Baptismal Controversy of a Different Kind
So I guess he was naked too...Aren't clothes and robes extraneous? While this happened 125 years ago, I always wonder why so many (not all) of my Baptist brethren care so much about the mode of Baptism but so little about the lives of people after the fact. Isn't holiness a Biblical command too? Listen to Tim Keller's Gospel Coalition message on Idolatry (4/21/2009) specifically as it relates to ministry. A good reminder, are we trusting in and making more of doctrine, spiritual gifts or moralism rather than Christ?

From Mary Poppins:
Gentleman No. 1 - "I met a man the other day with a wooden leg named Smith."
Gentleman No. 2 - "What was the name of his other leg?"

Re: A Baptismal Controversy of a Different Kind
AC,
Have you heard of the old man and his grandson walking through the fish market? The old guy says, "These are Baptist fish." The kid says, "How do you know?" The old guy says, "Because they spoil so quickly once you get them out of the water." Which is to say, that you have a point (believe me when I tell you that I agree with you), but part of me does wonder if Baptists have a corner on this market more than any other Christian communion?
Knowl,
How did you remember that?! :-)
