I'll give you the snippet and you see if you can spot it.
Cardinal Christoph Schonborn of Vienna has warned in a sombre Easter address that the time of Christianity in Europe is coming to an end. Meanwhile, Mark Russell, who heads up the Church Army in England has warned that the Church ‘is one generation away from extinction.’
Cardinal Schonborn said: "The time of Christianity in Europe is coming to an end. A Christianity, which achieved such great things like this cathedral or the wonderful music we will hear today."
Of course, maybe I'm being nitpicky, but I think the Cardinal answered the "Why?" with his answer without knowing he had answered it!

Re: You Answered The Question With Your Answer!
If buildings and music could keep Christianity going, they'd be in fine shape. I think this is a statement that should alarm many American churches. This could be a sign of things to come if mindsets are not changed.

Re: You Answered The Question With Your Answer!
Adam,
Ding, Ding, Ding!!!
Correct.
What if the cardinal had said, "A Christianity which achieved such things as transformed hearts and minds, better fathers, mothers, and children, better neighbors, lower crime rates, kinder, more honest, more diligent people..."
Now, THAT would have been refreshing.
But, then, I'm preaching to the choir, because you obviously got the point! :-)

Re: You Answered The Question With Your Answer!
Adam and Wyman, Thanks for your comments. This brief discussion has encouraged this small-church pastor. It is a reminder of what I know but sometimes forget, due to what I know can sometimes drown in all the Christian marketing and media surrounding dynamic Christian/church music and state-of-the-art church facilities. It is an encouragement to me because it affirms what I know to be true--churches are dynamic and, therefore, alive not based on their programs, size, style, facilities et al but based on *faithful* proclamation of God's word in word and in deed.

Re: You Answered The Question With Your Answer!
Kevin,
I need that encouragement too! Somehow it seems like the whole church-growth phenomenon majors on these kinds of things: buildings and music, instead of on the gospel. I think we get the cart before the horse, don't you? Get the gospel right, and great music is bound to rise out of that!
