"Miss Clora"

(A Poem For A Lady I Never Knew)

She wandered, Miss Clora did
As folks sometimes do
When the years have been long
And the mind grows tired
And the feet get itchy for a walk

She wandered out, Miss Clora did
Two nights ago, just taking a walk
And it was noticed she was gone
And the search parties looked
A good bit of yesterday

And they found her, Miss Clora
In the late afternoon, yesterday, outside
Where she had wandered
And she was gone, Miss Clora was
Gone, but the body remained

And I never knew her, Miss Clora
Just saw the picture on the Shell station door
Where folks walk in to pay for gas
While Miss Clora walked out
Just to take a walk

And I wonder about her wandering, Miss Clora
(While the rest of us walked our routines)
How she decided to walk out
And nobody will ever know why
“She was confused,” we’ll say

But could it be that she, Miss Clora
Smelled Christmas in the air
And thought of Another who walked
And went out to meet Him
And met Him walking too, right here in Terrell County?

Merry Christmas, Miss Clora!

Thank you, Wyman. That was beautiful. I think that Miss Clora, who was a retired teacher, would have appreciated your work. I wish you could have know her. You would have loved her just as I did.

Wyman, that was such a wonderful tribute to Miss Clora! What a kind and thoughtful thing for you to do, to take the time out of your busy schedule to pay tribute to a total stranger! Miss Clora was a sweet lady and will be truly missed. It is incredibly sad to know that she lost her life in such a painful and lonely way. So tragic!

Good Poem Wyman. I had seen her when I worked at the bank but didn't know her personally either. From what I've heard she was a neat lady that will be greatly missed! She is in a much better place than we are now though, isn't she?? :)

Wyman, thank you so much for remembering our dear friend and fellow teacher of 30+ years. Truly Mrs. Williams was a dedicated Christian lady who loved her Lord, her family and her friends. She will be truly missed by those of us who knew and loved her. Thanks again for your kind words and thoughts.

Wyman, what a touching tribute to "Miss Clora". I was one of those that joined in the search yesterday afternoon and was hoping to find her just around a corner. It seems just like yesterday that I sat and talked to her at a birthday celebration. She was a wonderful lady. I know she is going to have a Merry Christmas this year.

Pastor, you poem and thoughtfulness towards a person you did'nt know is very uplifting those of us who knew her. You will find out that she was a dedicated lady who cared for her family and other, someone who loved serving the lord and ATOC AME church where she served on the Usher Board.

Excellent poem. Maybe we don't know as much about these things as we think.

I had the honor to have worked with Mrs Clora several years ago. I consider it an honor to call her a true friend. To day GOD has a new ANGEL in heven. Im sure she is now visiting with some of the ones she helped durning her life here on earth.

I will truly miss Miss Clora. She was a dedicated member at our church. She would always come by and pop me side the head once i fell asleep. As i read the poem, I couldn't the hold the tears. One thing i will always remember is Miss Clora told me Dream Big, Shoot for the Cloud.

Precious! Such a lovely tribute to a lovely lady. I worked many times with her on the boards that were mentioned. She really was a "people person," and she did all within her power to assist children and adults alike - especially in the area of literacy. She will be greatly missed. Her influence, however, lives on here in Terrell County. Paula Parker

Thanks so much for that beautiful poem about my great aunt. She was an inspiration to me and many others. After hearing your sermons at Raines Baptist Church about how Jesus is in Terrell County and reading your poem, I know that he is truly here. My "Aunt T" took a walk with the King of Kings, The Great I Am, Alpha and Omega, and with that I am at peace. Our family is truly thankful for the many that took time out of their busy schedules to help. May God bless you all!

Many thanks to all of you for commenting. I have heard many, many people speak of Miss Clora, all of them bearing witness to a wonderful lady who walked with the Lord. I do regret that I never knew her, but now I feel like I kind of do!
