"SENIOR PASTOR - First Congregational, a non-denominational 500 active member church, seeks a senior pastor who is evangelical, homiletically superior, and a visionary with a servant's heart." [emphasis mine]
Which raises a few questions, like...
1. To what?
2. If he thinks he is, do you really want him?
3. If he's convinced he's not, will he respond to this ad?
4. If he thinks he may be but is afraid he'll be struck by lightning for suggesting so, should he respond...or does it just means he thinks God is a bit more superior?
5. Does saying, "Well, I don't think I am, but my friends all tell me..." count as superiority, or humility, or confusion?
6. Is this the missing beatitude?
and, lastly
7. TO WHAT?!
[Disclaimer: Wyman Richardson has been sick the last many days and is taking medicine. It may be best just to ignore this post. ;-)]

Re: Superiority, and other pastoral...um...traits?
Dr. Richardson,
In response to questions #5 and #2:
I don't think I am, but my friends all tell me I am, therefore I am most proud of my superior humility. So with my servant-like vision I could not see why any church wouldn't want a humbly superior homiletician.
However, I don't think I'll respond to the add . . . Unless of course the church is located in or near San Diego, CA. Then I could I see how my humble superiorousness would be most homiletically useful.
Your humble servant, Rev. Lee Herring
PS: Hope you get well soon!

Re: Superiority, and other pastoral...um...traits?
Lee,
A brilliant response, sir. Superior, even.
Btw, I, for one, think you are a superior homelitician, especially compared to __________. [I'll let you fill in the blank.]
I think I may be superior to this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_4cVZfkicQ ,but I'm certainly not superior to this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=zALqMWimBbM

Re: Superiority, and other pastoral...um...traits?
My Good Doctor,
I most certainly agree with your assessment. Bro. Tipton is the homelitician's homelitician! Perhaps someday I, too, will proclaim God's truth with the same power and conviction, if not the same skill for imitation and enunciation.
Infantiley yours, Lee
PS: Did you read the info sidebar accompanying the video? I quote, 'What happened to the days when becoming a preacher was the most awesome and respected things (sic) in the world? I hope it's coming back.' Not with the help of this video.
