Update:  In his initial comment to this post, Lee proposed a better picture of himself.  It was a bit off-center so I found a similar one that I think he will be pleased with.  ;-)

Lee Herring is the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Santa Fe, NM.  He's also been a friend of mine for over twenty years.  In fact, Lee was my Minister of Youth when I was a squid (Lord bless him!).

He's now written two parts of a multi-part (possibly seven-part) series he's entitled "Homosexuality Considered."  I think they're very well done and I thought I'd link to them here.

I began this morning's sermon (the second in a series on gossip) by referencing an episode of The Twilight Zone that I first saw as a kid.  The episode, entitled "The Silence," jarred me at the time and I've never forgotten it.  In particular, I referenced it in terms of what Colonel Taylor alleges and what Tennyson ultimately confirms about human nature and our ability (or lack thereof) to control our tongues.

I was thrilled to find the whole episode on YouTube.  Here 'tis (in 3 parts), if you care to see it.  But be forewarned if you haven't seen it:  it will make a lasting impression.

My friend Scott Kerlin once told me that I have very emotive tastes in music for a dude.  He didn't put it quite like that (mainly because Scott doesn't know what the word emotive means), but I do think he's probably right.  Yep, come to think of it, I'll admit as much with no shame:  I do treasure music that has great emotive force, that moves the soul as it were; music that is shot through with pathos, hinting at transcendence with a bit of melancholy to boot.

I thought of that a couple of weeks ago when I found myself mesmerized during an episode of The Prairie Home Companion at the music of a group I'd never heard of before:  The Wailin' Jennys.

In addition to having one of the cooler group names I've ever heard, these girls have absolutely beautiful voices.  I know next to nothing about them, but I know that I loved the song I heard on the radio that night, and I also love these songs.

Check this out.
