The appearance of new writing from the pen of James Leo Garrett, Jr., is always an occasion for rejoicing. Whether one agrees with all of Dr. Garrett's positions or not, one may be sure that he will encounter careful, irenic, and thoughtful scholarship when he reads the writings of Dr. Garrett.
Few seminary professors impacted my life like Dr. Garrett has, and I consider my continuing friendship with him to be one of the great joys of my life.

A few years ago I first encountered Shaun Groves' song, "Jesus". For some reason, this song has been on my mind the last few days.
Jesus said that how we treat "the least of these" is how we are treating Him. I think Groves' song captures that truth in a poignant and haunting kind of way. In doing so, it presents me with a beautiful challenge: to love the least of these as I would love Jesus. Then it presents me with a painful truth: that I am "the least of these"!
May this encourage you today.

Awesome is swinging by The Boars Head Tavern website and noting a recently posted comment by BHT Fellow Randy McRoberts to the effect that he has recently purchased the first three volumes of N.T. Wright's series, "Christian Origins and the Question of God," in Logos format and no longer needs his nearly-perfect condition volumes of the same titles.
Awesome is Randy offering said volumes to anybody who wants them for free.
Awesome is just happening to be the first person to email Randy with an "I'll take them!" email.
Awesome is having my buddy Travis Prinzi email me immediately after Randy posted that I had claimed the volumes and telling me that I...well...that he, Travis, isn't happy that I beat him to it.
And awesome is coming into the office and seeing a box containing this inside:

Well this breaks my heart. In 2006 and 2007 (I believe those years are right) I taught two one-week classes on the book of Hebrews at The Thomas Herrington Bible Institute in Honduras (the second time with my dad who taught another course). The Bible Institute operates under the auspices of The Baptist Medical Dental Mission International.
Recent winds caused a great deal of damage at the Institute, as these pictures will reveal. As I look at these I can see the Institute with perfect clarity in my mind's eye, along with the tremendous pastors who come to live and study there.
I would ask you to pray for this great ministry and to consider helping with the costs of rebuilding the Institute if you are able. It is a fascinating ministry and one that has borne great fruit!
Go here to read Dwight Carr's description of the damage, here to see even more pictures of the damage, here to learn more about BMDMI, and below to see a few pictures I've posted here.

I've been going to Disney World in Orlando, FL, all of my life. It's just part of my family's existence (then and now). Mrs. Richardson, Miss Richardson, and I spent three Spring Break days at Disney last week. As I've gotten older I've of course grown to look at the whole experience in different kinds of ways. On this particular trip (in those rare moments when I gave myself over to actual thought), I was reflecting on how Disney World is like Heaven in many ways and like Hell in many others.
Now, there are Disney enthusiasts who see it only as Heaven. I'm not one of them. There are Disney detractors who see it only as Hell. I'm not one of them. In fact, a great many of us are somewhere in the middle (Disney Purgatory?) and see both the wonder and the misery of one of America's truly amazing cultural phenomenons.
So without further adieu...

I've just read the news at www.internetmonk.com
Thank you, Jesus, for Michael. I know that You have risen, and, because of that, I will not despair for my brother, even though I don't understand why this happened.
I'm out of town and will have limited access for the rest of the week, but I wanted to acknowledge Michael's passing here.
Pray for Denise and Michael's children.
It was all so sudden. Too sudden.
